Reason for objection:

Although not within a conservation area, this grade 2 listed building is a prominent landmark in North Kingston. A garrison built for the East Surrey Regiment in 1875, its 'fort-like' appearance with castellated towers and crenulated parapets, is worthy of conservation as evidenced by its listed status. Sensitive conversion to residential use as flats took place in 2011 with no impact on the building's exterior.
Our main objection to the current application is the addition of a very prominent mansard roof across the entire length of the building, the effect of which is to completely alter/ lose the original & distinctive character of the building. A secondary objection is the extensive reflective glass component of the link corridors. This is out of keeping with the design & materials of the original building.
