Based on the officers’ report to the Kingston & North Kingston Planning Sub-Committee of 6 Dec ‘22, the proposed pontoon will now be timber-faced & subject to a temporary licence of 5 years. The Council’s Heritage & Conservation Officer has reviewed the application & concluded it will cause less than substantial harm to the setting & views of Riverside but which, planning officers believe, will be outweighed by the public benefit of extending access to the river. CAAC opinion now ‘neutral’.

Reason for objection:

This is a very narrow stretch of the riverside footpath & such an extended pontoon may cause congestion/ over-crowding. Has this been studied? Would prefer wooden construction but plastic proposal matches existing much smaller facility. No information on signage. What happens to this facility off season (most of the year). How many more boats can the river take, and have river users been consulted?

This would have a negative impact on the character of the CA.
