Reason for objection:
The committee understands the need for further parking space at the church, particularly in the light of recent road-narrowing on Portsmouth Road. However, in conservation terms, the proposed development will impact on the street scene in front of this grade 2 listed church.
Built in 1846 and designed by Charles Parker in an unusual Italianate Style, this is a prominent and beautiful building which enhances the riverside. It is noted as one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture in Britain. The grassed area in front and to the sides is integral to its original charm
The committee objects to the application unless the following revision is considered: Grasscrete to extend across the entire frontage and to the sides in order to preserve the integrity of the building and its surroundings.
