Reason for objection:
The Committee has no objection to the new glass balustrades, menu board or tables. However, the festoon lighting seems out of keeping with the general appearance of the Riverside Area. The proposed lighting has a somewhat ‘fairground’ or ‘end of the pier’ look about it, which is at odds with the rest of the street scene in this prominent part of Kingston.
Kingston Bridge is an important approach to the Borough with a view that needs to be protected.
Therefore, our objection would be withdrawn if the lighting was of a quality that better suits the character of the surroundings.
